And when has any Zelda game ever been bad? Even Twilight Princess, which people thought was disappointing at first, is a very well made game that is by no means “bad”. It’s Zel-freaking-daĪbove all the innumerable new features and refinements that Skyward Sword will be offering, what matters most and what makes the game so highly anticipated is the fact that it is a freaking Zelda game. Skyward Sword looks like it’ll be great value for money, with tons of stuff to do and innumerable gameplay hours to clock in. I’d say that’s more than competitive enough for Skyrim, which offers about the same amount of gameplay time. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is supposed to be a 100 hour long game, Nintendo announced some time ago, if you complete all side quests and the main story. More than anything else, I want to buy Skyward Sword because of the backstory it will provide for the series. And anyone who’s seen the recent origins trailer will know what I’m talking about. The creation of the Master Sword, of Hyrule, of the Zora, of the Sheikah, the origins story of Ganon- the damned prequel to the entire series, explaining the creation and origins of so many things in the franchise that we’ve all taken for granted for so long. We can’t wait to see just how major it is. We don’t really know just how much of a change the structure will see, but we do know it’s supposed to be something major. We’re not complaining, there hasn’t been a single Zelda game that we didn’t like (CDi games not included), but it’d be refreshing to see Zelda changing its ways. The Legend of Zelda games have traditionally followed a similar structure ever since the franchise’s inception- you go to a set number of dungeons to collect some items and then fight the final boss, with some deviations and tweaks in each game.
